Nicolas Ghesèquière first introduced the City bag (internally referred to as the ‘Motorcycle’) for Balenciaga’s Spring/Summer 2001 collection. What the Balenciaga boardroom initially dismissed, the fashion world claimed immediately. Photographed and worn religiously by Kate Moss, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, and Sienna Miller within its first seasons, the City transcended its tentative origins and landed squarely in the canon of great designer It-bags — a position it has never relinquished

Crafted from distressed lambskin in a spectrum of season-defining colours, it became instantly recognisable through its slouched silhouette, braided handles, signature buckle straps and minimal branding. For Spring/Summer 2007, Ghesèquière introduced the ‘Giant’ hardware variant, replacing the original silver-tone studs with oversized, cross-hatched aged brass hardware; a material shift that transformed the City’s downtown-cool aesthetic into something markedly more maximalist and rock-inflected.

Size + Condition

Material: Supple burnt orange lambskin leather with aged brass-tone ‘Giant’ hardware throughout.

Features: Dual braided leather top handles, oversized cross-hatched brass ‘Giant’ stud detailing, a front exterior zip pocket, side buckle-strap closures, and a main zip closure with a tasselled pull.

Era: Produced in the late 2000s (Nicolas Ghesèquière Era, approx. 2007–2009).

This bag presents well overall with the following noted wear, consistent with pre-owned use:

Lambskin body is in good overall condition; mild surface wear and very light cracking is present to the leather around the strap attachment points, consistent with age.
Leather shows signs of lifting and surface wear adjacent to the lower right stud panel — visible in the product imagery.
Giant brass hardware and stud detailing are in good condition with mild surface wear consistent with age.
Braided leather handles show light creasing; darkening of the leather is noted at the underside where the handles meet the bag, consistent with natural age and handling.
Side buckle straps and zip pull tassels are in good condition with no obvious damage.
Front zip shows mild signs of use; functions well.
Interior is in very good condition with minimal to no signs of use.
Comes with detachable shoulder strap (64cm) and original mirror; both in good used condition
Serial number tag reads 173084 502752 / Made in Italy.

Once your bag is on its way, you'll receive a tracking link by email so you can follow it from our hands to yours. We ship worldwide; international buyers may be liable for import duties or taxes levied by their destination country at the point of arrival.

If your bag isn't quite right, you may return it within 14 days of delivery for a refund. Returns must be sent back in the exact condition received, with all accompanying items (dust bag, authenticity card and packaging where supplied), and with the EBV London security tag attached and intact. Return postage is arranged by you using a fully tracked and insured service — we recommend Royal Mail Special Delivery within the UK or DHL Express internationally.
