Early-2000s Icon

First introduced by John Galliano for Dior’s Spring/Summer 2000 collection, the Saddle quickly became one of the defining accessories of the early-2000s fashion era. Its unconventional equestrian-inspired silhouette broke away from traditional handbag design, capturing the playful, logo-driven spirit of the decade.

Its cultural status was cemented when Carrie Bradshaw carried the bag in Sex and the City, before becoming a fixture of the celebrity scene, with Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie and Beyoncé among its high-profile admirers. More than a handbag, the Saddle became a defining symbol of the era’s fashion landscape.

After Dior temporarily discontinued the original design, renewed interest in archival fashion brought the style back into the spotlight. Maria Grazia Chiuri reintroduced the Saddle in 2018, sparking a new wave of demand and reaffirming its place in Dior’s modern history. Today, vintage examples remain particularly appealing to collectors drawn to Galliano-era Dior and the enduring influence of Y2K fashion.

Size + Condition

Material: Black Dior Trotter monogram canvas with smooth black leather trim and silver-tone metal hardware.

Features: Signature curved saddle silhouette, single leather top handle, Velcro flap closure, silver-tone ‘D’ hardware and side strap attachments, and interior lining.

Era: John Galliano era, circa 2002. Serial no. RU 1002 / Made in Italy.

Condition: Very Good

This bag presents in very good overall vintage condition, with minimal signs of previous use. Specific notes are as follows:

The black Trotter canvas is in excellent condition throughout, with no visible marking, staining or soiling.
The leather trim remains in very good condition, with no obvious corner wear. However the black leather fastening (at the velcro opening) shows very light creasing.
The handle displays only mild creasing consistent with gentle use.
The leather connecting the metal ‘D’ hardware and strap to the sides of the bag shows minor rubbing along the edges, as pictured in the product imagery.
All metal hardware is in very good condition, with no obvious tarnishing or scratching.
The interior shows only very light signs of previous use.

If your bag isn't quite right, you may return it within 14 days of delivery for a refund. Returns must be sent back in the exact condition received, with all accompanying items (dust bag, authenticity card and packaging where supplied), and with the EBV London security tag attached and intact. Return postage is arranged by you using a fully tracked and insured service — we recommend Royal Mail Special Delivery within the UK or DHL Express internationally.
