The maxi horsebit hardware on this bag traces back to 1955, when Gucci first used the equestrian hardware on a loafer, but the Chain bag itself is a Tom Ford design: he introduced it for Fall 2003, giving it a trapezoid shape, oversized horsebit, and a detachable chain-and-leather strap so it could be worn multiple ways.

The style largely disappeared after Ford's departure in 2004, resurfacing only briefly in 2011, before Alessandro Michele brought it back into regular production from Gucci's 2020 cruise collection. That revival tapped directly into Y2K nostalgia and drove a sharp rise in demand for horsebit styles through the early 2020s, making pieces like this one part of a genuine second act for the design rather than a one-off reissue.

Features: Maxi double horsebit hardware to the front, detachable leather and chain shoulder strap allowing the bag to be carried as a shoulder bag, crossbody, or clutch, trapezoid silhouette, silver-tone turn-lock closure.

Era: Gucci, from the house's ongoing revival of the Horsebit Chain line, originally introduced by Tom Ford for Fall 2003 and reintroduced under Alessandro Michele from the 2020 cruise collection onward.

This bag presents in very good condition overall. Specific notes are as follows:

Exterior leather presents very well throughout the bag, with no indentations, scuffing or discolouration.
All corners show very minimal signs of use.
Metal hardware and horsebit are in excellent condition.
Leather strap shows minimal signs of wear; the additional metal chain strap appears unused.
Interior shows very minor signs of use, with the satin lining in very good condition overall.
Please note: the interior Gucci label shows a blue transfer dye stain across the house name.

If your bag isn't quite right, you may return it within 14 days of delivery for a refund. Returns must be sent back in the exact condition received, with all accompanying items (dust bag, authenticity card and packaging where supplied), and with the EBV London security tag attached and intact. Return postage is arranged by you using a fully tracked and insured service — we recommend Royal Mail Special Delivery within the UK or DHL Express internationally.
