When Marc Jacobs approached Takashi Murakami for Louis Vuitton's Spring/Summer 2003 collection, the brief was to reimagine the Monogram. What Murakami delivered — the LV logo and flowers rendered across 33 individual colours, each bag requiring 33 separate silkscreen passes — was not a reimagining but a total reinvention. The collection generated over $300 million in its first year. Jennifer Lopez and Naomi Campbell fronted the campaigns; every celebrity paparazzi shot of the early 2000s featured the multicolore print.

The collaboration ran until 2015, when it was quietly retired following the departure of Marc Jacobs. That discontinuation is now a key part of its value story: what was ubiquitous became scarce, and with Y2K nostalgia driving demand, resale appreciation on certain Multicolore models has exceeded 200% in recent years. Louis Vuitton's 2025 re-edition — announced two decades after this bag was made — confirms the original collaboration's enduring status. The black colourway, with its 33 colours popping against the dark background, is widely considered the more striking and collectible expression.

Size + Condition

Material: Black coated canvas with 33-colour silkscreened LV Monogram Multicolore print, natural vachetta leather trim (now richly patinated), and gold-tone brass hardware.

Features: Classic Speedy barrel silhouette in Murakami's signature 33-colour Multicolore monogram print, exterior front pocket with gold-tone LV trunk-style buckle lock and engraved LOUIS VUITTON PARIS plaque, dual rolled vachetta leather top handles with gold-tone hardware, top zip closure with gold-tone zipper, protective gold-tone brass corner protectors. Interior lined in black suede-effect fabric with a single interior pocket. Accompanied by original leather cloche (lock cover) and both original keys.

This bag presents in good pre-owned condition. Wear is consistent with regular use and the age of the piece:

Black coated canvas body is in generally good condition with light creasing consistent with storage; the Multicolore print presents well throughout.
Front exterior pocket is in good condition. Front buckle lock and zipper show only minor surface scratching to the gold-tone hardware.
Base of the bag is in good condition. Brass corner protectors show more obvious signs of wear and scratching — the most notable area of hardware wear on the bag.
Vachetta leather trim shows light signs of general wear and natural aged patina throughout, consistent with the bag's 2004 provenance.
Top zip closure shows some creasing to the leather pull.
Rolled vachetta handles have darkened naturally with wear and show some small surface scratches; the leather at the base of the handles has a few minor light stains.
Interior black suede-effect lining is in generally very good condition. A minor faint pen mark (under 1cm) is present and visible in imagery; interior pocket shows very light signs of use.
Accompanied by the original leather cloche (lock cover) in aged but good condition, and both original keys in very good condition.

If your bag isn't quite right, you may return it within 14 days of delivery for a refund. Returns must be sent back in the exact condition received, with all accompanying items (dust bag, authenticity card and packaging where supplied), and with the EBV London security tag attached and intact. Return postage is arranged by you using a fully tracked and insured service — we recommend Royal Mail Special Delivery within the UK or DHL Express internationally.
